DEEP WATER TOOLING
Deep Water Tooling AS is a Norwegian based company founded by six people, each with a unique skillset from different parts of the offshore industry. Together they have developed tools and systems for a more sustainable and cost efficient workflow in subsea operations. The foundation of Deep Water Tooling’s concept is Water Hydraulics along with simple yet clever technical solutions to minimize downtime.
Water hydraylics have advantages
Oil has been the preferred liquid medium until now because of its lubricating and cooling properties. But water hydraulics still have considerable advantages over the conventional oil-based counterpart when it comes to subsea operations. Perhaps the most obvious one is the zero risk of pollution in case of leakage, this also makes it possible to continue operations even though there is a loose fitting. The pressure might decrease but there will be no risk of oil leakage. Another useful account is the simplicity of not needing to bring any extra oil reservoirs down with the ROV. This makes it possible to make full use of the ROV and thus saving resources and money.
Refining and testing the system
DWT has worked for many years with refining and testing the system. Evening out the areas in which oil hydraulics takes the lead. For as of now, water still cannot be used as a lubricant. But a specialized plan with accompanied maintenance and storage procedures minimizes the wear and tear of the cylinders. In addition to this, DWT has developed the system further with ceramic liners, modern materials as well as advanced filtration and customized plug & play valve packs. All adding up to a Water Hydraulic System which might just start tipping the scales when coming to a decision on which system to use onboard.
Action and flair in Bergen
Even if water hydraulics is what have gotten DWT well known in the industry they are both manufacturing and developing a range of different tools for subsea excavation and also custom made systems like Tether Management, Launch and Recovery and Spooling Units. All with the keywords “easy mobilization and transportation” in mind.
There is never a shortage of neither action nor flair in DWT’s workshop and warehouse in Gravdal, Bergen. The premises are always filled with projects in various stages. From a sketched idea to fully functional prototypes to neatly packed final products booked for delivery to one of the major oil & gas companies in the North Sea. What more awaits? We can count on 2023 to be an eventful year.
